Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior official said the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
